Upper cervical techniques, differences and similarities

Many clients who are new to this type of Chiropractic will ask what technique we practice here at Atlas Chiropractic and how is it different to other types of Upper Cervical Chiropractic techniques.

First of all an Upper Cervical Chiropractic will be primarily addressing the movement and position of the first vertebrae, the Atlas and the second vertebrae, the Axis. This is due to their close essential relationship with the nervous system and brainstem.

There are several types of Upper Cervical techniques and here are some of the following:

  • Knee Chest Upper Cervical Specific

  • NUCCA

  • Blair

  • Atlas Orthogonal

  • Toggle

The similarities that these techniques share in common is like mentioned above they all focus on the position and movement of Atlas and Axis and how this influences the nervous system. Most Chiropractors that practice the above techniques will also use Xray analysis of the cervical spine, to increase the specificity and precision of the adjustment.

Each technique also applies a very conservative approach to the adjustment and no vigorous forces are applied with rotational movements. All techniques are gentle and precise.

The differences that exists are Atlas Orthogonal adjustment are used with a machine and the adjustment is not done by the Chiropractors hands.

The other techniques Knee Chest Upper Cervical Specific, NUCAA, Blair and Toggle are all performed with the Chiropractors hands and a contact onto their patient.

Some of the techniques but not all measure the function of the nervous system with Thermograph technology. The technique at Atlas Chiropractic uses this approach on every visit. We are able to measure change, improvements and how a patients system is healing.

If you would like to know if the technique practiced at Atlas Chiropractic will work for you, please feel free to book a phone consultation and we will happily answer any questions you may have.
